Remuneration Manager Job Description

This role offers a unique opportunity to lead the payroll team and shape the city's future by ensuring it is sustainable, both culturally and economically.


As Remuneration Manager, you will oversee end-to-end payroll services, coaching and evaluating the performance of the Payroll team. You will also be responsible for developing and providing information and training to employees related to payroll and timekeeping processes.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the delivery of accurate and timely payrolls to ensure employees are paid correctly.
  • Coach, evaluate, and monitor the performance of the Payroll team to guarantee that services are provided effectively and efficiently.
  • Be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for payroll and remuneration projects, contributing to other initiatives across the organization.
  • Develop and deliver information and training to employees as necessary on payroll and timekeeping procedures.
  • Collaborate closely with Finance and auditors to meet reporting and data requirements.
  • Review and develop internal controls, procedures, and processes to maintain compliance with payroll, superannuation, and taxation-related legislation.
  • Lead the job evaluation process to ensure position gradings are consistent.
  • Oversee the annual salary review cycle.
  • Conduct research into market rates of pay to support non-standard remuneration scenarios.

Requirements

For this position, we require a candidate with tertiary qualifications in business or accounting, as well as at least 5 years' experience in payroll management, preferably in a large and complex organization.


  • Tertiary qualifications in business or accounting.
  • Minimum of 5 years' payroll experience in a large and complex organization.
  • Experience working with contemporary HRIS and payroll systems and software.
  • Certification and experience in job evaluation processes.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and demonstrate strong attention to detail.
  • Sound understanding of current legislation and developments in payroll.
  • Capacity to build positive working relationships with employees across all levels of the organization.
