Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker to join our team. In this role, you will provide high-quality healthcare services to young people in custody, working closely with them and their families to promote their physical and mental wellbeing.
About the Role:
This is a part-time position, available 0.4 FTE, fixed-term until June 2026. You will be based at Parkville Youth Justice Precinct, where you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver primary health, allied health, dental, and mental health services to young people aged 10-21 years (up to 24 years depending on age of sentencing).
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Engage and build rapport with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and other young people and staff in a culturally safe manner to deliver high-quality, person-centered, and innovative care
- Monitor, report, and document individual client needs, changes in physical and mental health, wellbeing, and general progress to ensure a smooth and seamless recovery-oriented approach
- Refer, consult, and liaise with families and other key stakeholders to ensure a holistic multi-disciplinary approach to healthcare provision
- Maintain information systems and implement relevant administrative procedures and systems
Requirements:
- A Certificate III or above in Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care
- Relevant experience such as Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander health worker, community development, health promotion, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Liaison Officer, Social Work, or equivalent experience in the housing, mental health, AOD, disability, or welfare sectors
- An understanding of the physical, social, and cultural needs of Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islander people
- Ability to work independently and as an effective team member
