About the Role

Northern Inland Credit Union is seeking an experienced Chief Risk Officer to lead our risk management strategy and framework. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for identifying and evaluating potential risks, developing and implementing risk mitigation strategies, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Risk Management Strategy and Framework
    • Develop and maintain the risk management framework, including policies and procedures, to ensure alignment with our objectives and risk appetite.
    • Oversee and manage our enterprise-wide risk management strategy, ensuring it is aligned with our objectives and risk appetite.
    • Identify and evaluate potential risks, including operational, financial, strategic, capital, legal, and regulatory risks.
  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation
    • Conduct regular risk assessments and risk profiling to identify emerging risks and vulnerabilities.
    • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies, controls, and action plans to minimize risks to an acceptable level.
    • Collaborate with business units to integrate risk management into decision-making processes and develop risk mitigation strategies.
  • Compliance and Regulatory Oversight
    • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and prudential standards.
    • Stay updated on regulatory changes and industry best practices to ensure our risk management practices remain current and aligned.
    • Provide guidance on risk matters, including risk assessments of new and varied contracts, products, and services.
    • Establish and maintain relationships with regulatory bodies and industry associations.
  • Risk Reporting and Communication
    • Prepare and present risk reports to senior management, the board of directors, and relevant committees.
    • Manage the administration of risk documentation and oversee changes to the risk reporting system.
    • Communicate risk-related information and insights effectively to key stakeholders, fostering a risk-aware culture.
    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to provide guidance and training on risk management practices and responsibilities.
    • Chair and act as secretary for the Risk Management Committee, attending to all related administration.
  • Risk Culture and Awareness
    • Foster a strong risk management culture throughout Northern Inland Credit Union, promoting awareness and understanding of risk-related issues.
    • Encourage employees to report risks, incidents, and near-misses, and ensure timely investigation and resolution.
    • Promote risk awareness through training, workshops, and communication initiatives.
    • Develop the annual Risk Culture Survey, ensuring it is aligned to our requirements.
  • Crisis and Business Continuity Management
    • Develop and maintain crisis management and business continuity plans to ensure preparedness for potential disruptions.
    • Coordinate crisis response efforts, including communication, incident assessment, and recovery strategies.
    • Conduct regular testing and exercises to evaluate the effectiveness of crisis management and business continuity plans.
    Requirements
    • A tertiary qualification in business, finance, or a related field.
    • Demonstrated experience in a senior risk and/or compliance role, preferably in the financial services industry or a regulated sector.
    • In-depth knowledge of risk management frameworks, methodologies, and best practices.
