Job Overview:

The City of Ballarat seeks a skilled Communications Officer to develop and implement communication programs that benefit the community and advance the city's objectives.

This role is part of the Communications and Design team, responsible for ensuring proactive and responsive communication with the community, media, and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement communication strategies to promote the city's image and enhance community understanding.
  • Provide accurate and timely research, writing, and editing services for various communication materials.
  • Coordinate media and communication activities to maximize the use of owned, earned, and paid channels.
  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders to positively influence the city's image in the community.
  • Undertake specific projects as required, including some out-of-hours and weekend work.

Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualification in Communications/Public Relations/Media/Journalism or more than five years working in a communications or public relations role.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to prepare communications for external, internal, and digital audiences.
  • Ability and experience of proactively promoting and improving an organization's public image and enhancing community understanding through effective communications and public relations materials and methods.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a high-pressure environment and managing competing priorities and tight timeframes.
