Job Title: Quality Assurance Specialist

Oriental Merchant is a leading importer and distributor of authentic Asian groceries with brands familiar throughout Asia Pacific. Our brand has a strong national and global presence.

We are seeking a Quality Assurance Specialist to support our Procurement team in Melbourne. The successful applicant will be required to:

  • Manage the product database including specifications, artworks, images, and price lists.
  • Oversee the New Product Development process for all markets including coordinating communication with suppliers and conducting compliance checks from start to finish.
  • Coordinate NPD processes for non-Chinese products and organize necessary information for the database and new product setup in SAP for each operation.
  • Notify sales teams of new products developed for various markets.
  • Conduct product and packaging verification for stock arriving for the first time.
  • Conduct random inspections on imported products to ensure compliance and quality control.
  • Investigate quality-related issues related to customer complaints.
  • Work with the Customer Service team to manage effective complaint resolutions.
  • Manage HACCP and other certifications and compliance.
  • Conduct factory audits as instructed.
  • Provide technical support to sales and purchase teams when needed.
  • Manage the Australian Packaging Covenant Program.

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Full working rights in Australia.
  • Tertiary education with a relevant degree in international supply chain food technology and/or commerce preferred but not essential.
  • A minimum of 2 years experience in a relevant Quality Control role.
  • Fluency in spoken and written Chinese and English.
  • A sound understanding of the Food Standards Act and Regulations.
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong numerical and administrative skills including proficiency in Excel.
  • Effective management of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency.
