About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Communications Specialist to join our team at Rio Tinto. As a key member of our corporate affairs team, you will be responsible for leading communications and supporting employee engagement for our Gove operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement major communications strategies and plans for the Gove site, including operations and closure activities.
  • Coach leaders on effective communications and their development and delivery of messaging to their teams.
  • Actively engage with frontline employees and supervisors in the field and observe communication plan implementation – collect feedback and continuously improve communications based on findings.
  • Develop rich, relevant content that is simple, effective and reaches our frontline employees while experimenting with new, creative ways and processes to reach employees with the information they care about.
  • Manage and oversee content across operations and ensure information is relevant, timely and effective.
  • Monitor, report and evaluate communications impact/reach against key business priorities.
  • Contribute Gove content to Aluminium, Closure and Rio Tinto channels such as newsletters, written articles, and social media channels.
Requirements
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
  • A strong background and keen interest in internal communications but may also have strong experience in other corporate affairs disciplines.
  • Experience working in an operations environment and collaborating with other corporate affairs disciplines including media relations, social media and branding teams.
  • Well-developed writing skills and a good understanding of how to adapt writing and content for various channels and audiences.
  • Ability to transform technical information into engaging content and proficiency in developing messaging to manage complex and sensitive issues.
  • Ability to prioritize and balance needs of multiple stakeholders.
  • A bachelor's degree in communications or related discipline/field such as journalism, public relations or marketing.
