The role of Tax Compliance Specialist is crucial in assisting with the administration and compliance of indirect taxes for a prominent retail group.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting with GST compliance for the group's GST Group and various joint venture investments, including BAS, IAS, and PAYG.
- Preparing FBT returns for the group and maintaining processes and checklists to ensure compliance with FBT legislation.
- Maintaining accounting and tax records to support the group's office in monitoring and evaluating franchisee businesses, including liaising with external tax agents to assist with compliance activities.
- Reconciling BAS payments and refunds for Franchisor Reports of franchised complexes and liaising with Administration Managers to recommend resolutions for any discrepancies.
- Maintaining and registering Australian Business Numbers for all members of the group.
- Assisting the Indirect Tax Manager with providing ad-hoc indirect tax advice, including GST implications affecting new business initiatives, system upgrades, and new transactions.
- Reporting and reconciling PAYG accounts, analysing payroll reports received from the external payroll bureau, and performing monthly payroll tax calculations and annual reconciliations.
- Assisting the Indirect Tax Manager in ensuring Indirect Tax policies and procedures align with the company's Tax Framework.
- Assisting with ATO and State Revenue reviews related to GST and payroll taxes.
- Liaising with the ATO as required.
- Assisting the financial reporting team during peak seasons by preparing work papers for consolidated financial statements and note disclosures.
- Remaining informed on current indirect tax-related news, including legislative changes and regulatory statements.
Requirements include strong organisational skills, ability to meet deadlines, and effective communication skills. Proficiency in relevant software and systems is essential. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of taxation laws and regulations.
