A key aspect of this role is to deliver high-quality clinical services within the Department of Orthopaedics, including inpatient care, pre- and post-operation, outpatient care, and community care.

  • This involves providing comprehensive patient care and management, as well as participating in outreach programs to rural facilities in the Whitsunday area.

As a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, you will be responsible for promoting and participating in educational programs for medical students in the Orthopaedics Department, including a preceptor program for students undergoing clinical immersions.

  • You will also contribute actively in the education and training of interns and junior medical staff in Orthopaedics/Surgical disciplines.
  • Direct supervision of clinical services provided by junior medical staff is also an essential part of this role.

Mackay Base Hospital has undergone significant redevelopment, offering a state-of-the-art healthcare facility with 236 beds.

In terms of requirements, applicants should be registered (or eligible for registration) as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia and be a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) or equivalent.

  • Overseas-trained specialists must have completed their training in either the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA, or New Zealand.
