The Litter Action Officer – Chain of Ponds plays a pivotal role in mitigating the occurrence and effects of litter within the Moonee Ponds Creek area. This position involves overseeing the planning, execution, assessment, and reporting of the Moonee Ponds Creek Litter Action Plan and its recommendations derived from the Moonee Ponds Creek Litter Assessment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Organize and lead meetings for the Litter Working Group, adhering to established Terms of Reference.
  • Encourage participation from a diverse array of stakeholders concerned with litter across the Moonee Ponds Creek catchment.
  • Draft agendas, minutes, and reports to facilitate the operations of the Working Group.
  • Provide regular updates regarding the Working Group to relevant governance groups and the Chain of Ponds website.
  • Collaborate with the Working Group to ensure the continued execution of the Litter Action Plan.
  • Coordinate the implementation of actions with the Working Group and partner organizations.
  • Explore and apply for funding opportunities to enhance litter management initiatives.
  • Assess and report on the Action Plan as per agreements with the Working Group and governance entities.
  • Maintain the Chain of Ponds website with updates on the progress and annual reports of the Working Group.
  • Assist the Working Group in identifying and pursuing partnership opportunities across various sectors.
  • Conduct research and facilitate discussions on significant litter management challenges within the catchment.
  • Engage with the Wurundjeri Woi wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation on relevant litter projects in collaboration with the Chain of Ponds Collaboration Lead.
  • In partnership with the Collaboration Lead, manage projects to achieve outcomes set by the Litter Working Group.
  • Collaborate with council members and the Working Group to create strategic plans and review essential documents.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Degree or equivalent qualification combined with experience in delivering environmental, waterway, or litter management programs.
  • Proven experience in litter management and educational or behavioral change initiatives.
  • Exceptional organizational abilities with a capacity to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of producing detailed reports and correspondence.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and drive decision-making.
  • Capacity to understand and address diverse stakeholder needs while fostering relationships.
Essential Certifications:
  • Current Driver's License.
