The Litter Action Officer – Chain of Ponds plays a crucial role in mitigating the occurrence and effects of litter within the Moonee Ponds Creek area. This position involves overseeing the planning, execution, assessment, and reporting of the Moonee Ponds Creek Litter Action Plan and its recommendations derived from the Moonee Ponds Creek Litter Assessment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Organize and lead meetings for the Litter Working Group in line with established Terms of Reference.
  • Encourage participation from a diverse array of stakeholders related to litter management across the Moonee Ponds Creek catchment.
  • Draft agendas, minutes, and reports to facilitate the operations of the Working Group.
  • Provide regular updates regarding the Working Group to relevant governance groups and maintain the Chain of Ponds website.
  • Collaborate with the Working Group to advance the Litter Action Plan.
  • Coordinate the execution of actions in partnership with the Working Group and associated organizations.
  • Explore and apply for funding opportunities to support litter management initiatives.
  • Assess and report on the Action Plan in agreement with the Working Group and governance bodies.
  • Update the Chain of Ponds website with progress reports and annual updates from the Working Group.
  • Assist the Working Group in identifying and pursuing partnership opportunities with various sectors.
  • Conduct research and facilitate discussions on significant litter management challenges within the catchment.
  • Engage with the Wurundjeri Woi wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation on relevant litter projects in collaboration with the Chain of Ponds Collaboration Lead.
  • In partnership with the Collaboration Lead, manage projects to achieve outcomes as defined by the Working Group.
  • Collaborate with council members and the Working Group to create strategic plans and review essential documents.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • A degree or equivalent qualification, coupled with experience in delivering environmental, waterway, or litter management programs.
  • Proven experience in litter management and educational or behavioral change initiatives.
  • Exceptional organizational abilities with a capacity to manage multiple priorities and fulfill project requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of producing detailed reports and correspondence.
  • Well-honed interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and drive outcomes.
  • Capability to understand and address diverse stakeholder needs while fostering strong relationships.
Essential Certifications:
  • Possession of a current driver's license.
