Senior Paper Conservator & Head of Paper Conservation

  • This role encompasses a combination of hands-on conservation and team leadership for paper-based projects across various settings.

Tasks involve treatments on archival and library material, maps, plans, posters, photographs, wallpaper in historic buildings, documents, books, and artworks on paper including watercolours, gouache, prints, pastels, ink, pencil, and oil on paper, as well as mixed media works.

  • Key responsibilities include consulting with clients and colleagues to estimate costs and execute all technical aspects of conservation and client liaison.

An essential component is disaster response, which covers health and safety planning and recovery of items damaged by fire, flood, and other emergency events.

  • Other responsibilities may include project development and implementation, time management, subcontractor coordination, disaster response, WHS in the lab, and report writing.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A minimum 6-10 years of work experience as a Paper Conservator
  • High-level technical skills for a variety of project scenarios
  • Ability to make positive contributions in a team environment and also work independently
