About the Role:

The Jewish Board is seeking a skilled Handyman to join our team as a Maintenance and Operations Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for the overall maintenance and operations of our buildings and grounds, ensuring that our facilities are clean, properly functional, in good repair, safe, and secure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs to buildings and grounds, including plumbing, carpentry, painting, plastering, electrical, and HVAC systems.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify and address potential issues before they become major problems.
  • Operate and maintain building systems, including security locksets, alarms, lighting, HVAC, fire safety, and utilities.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including OSHA, DEP, and NYFD requirements.
  • Perform grounds maintenance, including mowing, raking, weeding, planting, pruning, and removing ice/snow.
  • Collect and manage trash removal and recycling in accordance with building requirements and NYC DOS regulations.
  • Move office furniture, equipment, and supplies as needed.
  • Work from OSHA-approved ladders and work platforms to complete repairs and maintenance.
  • Attend and successfully complete safety, security, and other trainings required by the agency.
  • Drive company vehicles as directed by management.
  • Observe, document, and report any problems with the building, unit, or property to supervisors.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, ladders/lifts, personal safety gear, and follow safety protocols as directed.
  • Assist with external vendor and landlord's building superintendent access to work areas.
  • Complete and return work orders, maintain records, and ensure follow-up and completion of required tasks.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalency required.
  • Current, valid clean Driver's license required, and must be maintained throughout employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years of experience in building construction/maintenance/repair; an Educational/Trade certificate in a related field may be substituted for two (2) years of experience.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and well-rounded hands-on mechanical skills.
