Cultural Support Specialist

About the Role:
SAL Consulting Group is seeking an experienced and culturally sensitive individual to join our team as a Cultural Consultant. As a key member of our multi-disciplinary team, you will provide flexible, culturally safe, and responsive supports to people with a disability, young people, and individuals involved with the justice system.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work in partnership with SAL Consulting practitioners to ensure the provision of holistic and culturally appropriate services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.
- Use a Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) lens to work with clients, their families, or carers to identify their cultural, spiritual, and social goals.
- Provide cultural guidance and information to the multi-disciplinary team to promote awareness and sensitivity to the cultural needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Maintain comprehensive reports and notes about your work.
- Provide support in various settings, including in the home, community, schools, clinics, or via telehealth (where appropriate).
- Develop and collect resources and implement strategies that contribute to the quality of life of each client.
- Attend Care Team Meetings and provide specific, culturally safe input.

Essential Criteria:
- Workplace Literacy Skills.
- Identifies as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
Desirable Experience, Interest, and Skills:
- Ability to maintain and build on positive relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, Elders, and Traditional Owners.
- Demonstrated understanding of health, social, and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Ability to effectively engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across language groups and communities.
- Ability to communicate an understanding of clients' needs, leveraging both lived experience and cultural awareness.
- Identify and develop resources to assist in the cultural support of clients.
- Experience or interest in working with people with intellectual disabilities and/or experiences of trauma who have complex needs.
- Reliability and organisational skills, particularly in scheduling your workload.
- Language skills will be highly regarded.
