Job Description

Fitter-Welders, or Structural Metal And Platework Specialists, play a pivotal role in the manufacturing and construction sectors. They are responsible for installing fabricated components, ensuring that they meet the required specifications and standards.

These skilled professionals must possess excellent problem-solving abilities, as they need to interpret engineering drawings and instructions to plan methods and sequences of operation. This includes laying out reference points and patterns to ensure accurate cuts, assembling and fitting plates and sections to form structures, and setting up and operating heavy-duty metal-working machines.

Experienced Fitter-Welders must be able to examine welds to ensure they meet standards and specifications. They must also have strong knowledge of various welding techniques, including MIG, TIG, Flux core arc welding (FCAW), Gas metal arc welding (GMAW), and be familiar with different types of cranes, equipment, and machinery.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Interpret engineering drawings and others' instructions to plan methods and sequences of operation
  • Lay out reference points and patterns
  • Assemble and fit plates and sections to form structures
  • Set up and operate heavy-duty metal-working machines
  • Install fabricated components in final product
  • Rig, hoist and move materials to storage areas or within worksite
  • Examine welds and ensure that they meet standards and/or specifications
