Role Duties:

The primary objective of this role is to assist and support the Design Manager in delivering project scope. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Delivering civil/structural engineering work packages to required scope, quality, schedule, and cost.
  2. Managing technical aspects of engineering packages from identification to handover.
  3. Managing one or more technical design packages, agreeing project-related objectives, managing designer performance, and making technical management responses.
  4. Providing advice as per discipline.
  5. Ensuring design documentation covers scope of operations required by Project Manager and is produced to agreed standards, schedule, and budget.
  6. Ensuring effective Quality Management Arrangements, operating and delivering through compliance with our clients Business Management System and Technical Manual.
  7. Ensuring processes and activities being managed are appropriately documented with records maintained and configuration and quality controls applied.
  8. Ensuring staff and contractors are familiar with hazards and risks associated with work undertaken by delegated engineering team through effective management and communication of Risk Assessment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competences:

The ideal candidate will have a degree or equivalent in Civil or Structural engineering related discipline. Preferably Chartered Engineer status and member of a relevant institution or significant demonstrable engineering experience and capable of registration with the Engineering Council at CEng level.

Key skills and experience include:

  1. Design and substantiation of heavy civil engineering and building structures, with particular experience in dock structures preferred.
  2. Knowledge of architectural design of industrial buildings.
  3. Knowledge of building services design and installation.
  4. Preferably experience of relevant seismic codes for satisfying Nuclear Safety Functions.
  5. Preferably knowledge of construction techniques employed for Nuclear Safety related structures and buildings.
  6. Demonstrate relevant knowledge and skills required in technical management of complex design development throughout design lifecycle.
  7. A track record in Structural/Civil design in a comparable environment.
  8. Experience working in a multi-discipline environment with multiple interfaces.
  9. Sound understanding of engineering design and safety practice as relevant to discipline, post, and project requirements.
  10. Sound understanding of procedures relating to Design, Health & Safety, and Quality requirements, and ability to manage projects in accordance with these procedures.
  11. Preferably experience of design support to construction, operation, refit/repair of conventional and nuclear submarines and/or facilities.
  12. A professional level of competence in generation of documentation, calculation, and drawings (CAD by others).
  13. Working knowledge of relevant engineering computer applications.
  14. The ability to follow an engineering process and maintain accurate records and document/drawing revision control.
  15. A proven track record in completing work packages in a highly regulated environment would be desirable.
