Senior Research Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Research Officer to join our team at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research. As a key member of our research team, you will be responsible for conducting research independently within a laboratory, with strategic guidance and oversight from the Laboratory Head.
Your primary focus will be on achieving funding to support your research projects, while also contributing to the development of new collaborations and research initiatives. You will work closely with our consumers to ensure the relevance of our patient-centric approach to research and contribute to the efficient day-to-day operations of the research lab and facilities.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct research independently within a laboratory, with strategic guidance and oversight from the Laboratory Head
- Develop and implement research projects, including the design, execution, and analysis of experiments
- Contribute to the development of new collaborations and research initiatives
- Work closely with our consumers to ensure the relevance of our patient-centric approach to research
- Contribute to the efficient day-to-day operations of the research lab and facilities
- PhD in a relevant field, such as cancer cell biology and/or immunology
- Minimum of 4 years post-doctoral experience
- Strong record of scientific achievement, with a strong first-author and emerging senior/co-senior author track record of scientific publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals
- High level of research independence and innovation, evidenced by competitive fellowships and grants
- Established expertise in a wide range of molecular, cell biology techniques, including single cell and spatial methodologies, cancer models, and the ability to rapidly learn new techniques
- Strong problem-solving, analytical skills, and strategic thinking
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well and flexibly with a wide range of stakeholders
