Senior Research Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Research Officer to join our team at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research. As a key member of our research team, you will be responsible for conducting independent research within a laboratory, with strategic guidance and oversight from the Laboratory Head.
The successful candidate will have a strong track record of scientific achievement, with a significant record of first-author and emerging senior/co-senior author track record of scientific publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals. You will also have established expertise in a wide range of molecular, cell biology techniques, including single-cell and spatial methodologies, cancer models, and the ability to rapidly learn new techniques.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct independent research within a laboratory, with strategic guidance and oversight from the Laboratory Head.
- Develop and implement research projects, resulting in first or senior authorship of published articles in leading journals, books, conference papers/reports, and other research publications.
- Contribute to productive research outcomes in team and collaborative projects, resulting in mid-authorships on scientific publications.
- Supervise and mentor research students and junior research staff to support beneficial outcomes for the lab's research and create a path to independence.
- Contribute to research projects other than your own and develop new collaborations to maximize opportunities for cross-fertilization of ideas, techniques, and complex research problem-solving.
We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual with a strong track record of scientific achievement. You will have a PhD in a relevant field, such as cancer cell biology and/or immunology, and a minimum of 4 years of postdoctoral experience. You will also have established expertise in a wide range of molecular, cell biology techniques, including single-cell and spatial methodologies, cancer models, and the ability to rapidly learn new techniques.
You will be an excellent communicator and team player, with strong problem-solving, analytical skills, and strategic thinking. You will also have experience leading and managing teams, and strong leadership and mentoring skills.
