Senior Research Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Research Officer to join our team at The Garvan Institute of Medical Research. As a Senior Research Officer, you will be responsible for conducting research independently within a laboratory, with strategic guidance and oversight from the Laboratory Head.
You will have the opportunity to work on a range of exciting projects, including the development of novel therapeutic interventions for pancreatic cancer. You will also have the chance to collaborate with our clinical collaborators to translate promising treatment strategies into clinical trials.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct research independently within a laboratory, with strategic guidance and oversight from the Laboratory Head.
- Develop and implement novel therapeutic interventions for pancreatic cancer.
- Collaborate with clinical collaborators to translate promising treatment strategies into clinical trials.
- Supervise and mentor research students and junior research staff.
- Contribute to the development of new collaborations and research projects.
To be successful in this role, you will need to have a PhD in a relevant field, such as cancer cell biology and/or immunology, and a minimum of 4 years post-doctoral experience. You will also need to demonstrate a significant record of scientific achievement, with a strong first-author and emerging senior/co-senior author track record of scientific publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals.
You will need to have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well and flexibly with a wide range of stakeholders. Experience leading and managing teams, as well as strong leadership and mentoring skills, are also highly desirable.
