About This Opportunity

The University of Queensland is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Academic Guidance Lead to join our team at the Rural Clinical School. This is a teaching-focused position that requires a strong commitment to academic excellence and student support.

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting students throughout their Doctor of Medicine program, working closely with other academics to enhance the Learning Community environment and foster a sense of belonging among students and staff.

This position reports to the Head of Regional Training Hub Central Queensland and requires a medical qualification and a General Practice Specialist or non-GP Specialist qualification, with eligibility for registration as a medical practitioner in Australia.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teaching: Provide high-quality academic advice and guidance to students enrolled in the Doctor of Medicine program, using a 'step-care approach' to support student progression.
  • Academic Leadership: Enhance the progression of students through each year of the MD program, providing academic guidance, remediation, pastoral care, career guidance, and extension activities.
  • Research: Maintain personal academic standing, pursuing research and scholarship to contribute to the University's research excellence.
  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Demonstrate personal effectiveness in supervision and management, developing student capability and skill.
  • Citizenship and Service: Contribute proactively and respectfully to the RCU and Learning Community, aligning with the University's values.

About You
  • Medical qualification and a General Practice Specialist or non-GP Specialist qualification, with eligibility for registration as a medical practitioner in Australia.
  • Experience in student support and/or clinical supervision of medical students, with demonstrated skills in education at undergraduate, postgraduate, and/or professional levels.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and knowledge of medical education, with the ability to engage effectively in the scholarship of teaching and learning.
  • High-level communication and interpersonal skills for working with students, colleagues, and external partners.
  • A commitment to and understanding of the issues surrounding living and working in a rural and/or regional area.
