About Us

The Australian Government Department of Defence is committed to ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of its employees. The Directorate of Strategy, Policy and Assurance plays a critical role in achieving this goal by developing and implementing the Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) strategy.

As a WHS Coordinator within this Directorate, you will be responsible for coordinating WHS activities across the department. This will involve:

  • Managing incoming and outgoing tasks related to WHS;
  • Engaging with stakeholders to identify and respond to WHS issues;
  • Providing advice and assistance on WHS matters;
  • Supporting the development and implementation of WHS policies and procedures;
  • Building relationships with key stakeholders to promote WHS awareness and improvement;
  • Coordinating WHS training and awareness programs;

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled WHS professional to join our team and contribute to the development and implementation of WHS strategies that promote a safe and healthy work environment. You will have the opportunity to work closely with other teams and stakeholders to identify and address WHS risks and hazards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate WHS activities across the department;
  • Manage WHS incidents and near misses;
  • Develop and implement WHS policies and procedures;
  • Provide WHS training and awareness programs;
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders to promote WHS awareness and improvement;

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • Proven experience in WHS coordination and management;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Ability to analyze data and identify trends and patterns;
  • Familiarity with WHS legislation and regulations;

Salary

$65,000 - $80,000 per annum + superannuation benefits.
