Job Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a Quantum Applications Scientist to join the team at UNSW Australia. As a key member of the Algorithms and Applications team, you will be responsible for investigating quantum advantage with near-term quantum systems, exploring analogue quantum systems on phosphorus-doped silicon quantum dots, and developing digital quantum algorithms on atom-based silicon hardware.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field, with research experience in classical machine learning, quantum machine learning, condensed matter physics, or computational physics. You will also have experience writing high-performance quantum algorithm implementations, preferably in Python, MATLAB, C/C++, or equivalent, as well as expertise in troubleshooting complex unplanned issues.

In addition to your technical skills, you will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, be well-organised, and able to meet deadlines. You will also have a demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines, and build effective relationships.

About the Role

As a Quantum Applications Scientist, you will play a crucial role in advancing the development of quantum computing technology at UNSW Australia. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Investigating quantum advantage with near-term quantum systems.
  • Exploring analogue quantum systems on phosphorus-doped silicon quantum dots.
  • Developing digital quantum algorithms on atom-based silicon hardware.
  • Adapting and tailoring analogue quantum systems and quantum algorithms for industry-focused applications.
