Aboriginal Student Support Officer Position
The Department of Education, Western Australia seeks an individual to fill the Aboriginal Student Support Officer role. This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 4, 2025.

This role plays a vital part in fostering a safe, inclusive, and empowering school environment for Aboriginal students. Supporting students and addressing diverse needs will be a key focus, along with collaborating with the Student Services team to provide social and emotional support, encouraging engagement and achievement.

The Role

We are seeking a dedicated and culturally responsive individual to support the wellbeing, engagement, and success of our Aboriginal students. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with school staff, families, and external agencies to develop and implement effective support strategies and culturally appropriate interventions.


Responsibilities
  1. Student Support Coordination: Provide coordination support for the Student Support Program.
  2. Culturally Responsive Strategies: Assist teachers with developing culturally responsive strategies to engage and support Aboriginal students.
  3. Community Connections: Strengthen connections between students, families, the school, and community services.
  4. Case Management: Participate in case management, student assessments, and crisis response.
  5. School Planning: Contribute to school planning and projects related to Aboriginal education and cultural responsiveness.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • A positive attitude towards working with Aboriginal students.
  • An ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with local organisations and services.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of Aboriginal students experiencing difficulties.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and training.
