As a Dementia Support Specialist, you will play a key role in strengthening workforce capacity in respite dementia care. This involves working closely with staff in community organisations and residential aged care settings.
You will engage with clients through face-to-face interactions, phone or video-based support, observation, modelling of practice, and reflective dialogue. Your role requires delivering tailored education and mentoring based on the core educational modules of the program.
You will design and implement coaching content for presentation to staff groups and one-on-one coaching sessions. This position demands a high level of professional autonomy, adaptability, and initiative, as well as a commitment to person-centred and psychosocial approaches to dementia support.
Key Responsibilities- Provide on-site support, implement relationship-based support strategies, model and coach clients, carers, and care staff.
- Collaborate with peers to develop aged care staff and carer skills, expertise, and applied knowledge to understand individuals with dementia and provide best practice support and care.
Support the implementation of recommendation plans, drawing on modelling and coaching techniques, and seek guidance from the Team Leader, Dementia Consultant, and Senior Consultant as needed.
Facilitate and support the trial and implementation of brokerage items with clients and their carers, and seek guidance from the Team Leader, Dementia Consultant, and Senior Consultant as required.
Required Skills and Qualifications- Strong organisational abilities, effective time management, and ability to prioritise in a busy work environment with competing demands.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
A relevant qualification is essential; Allied Health assistant, Diversional Therapy, Enrolled Nursing (EN), Aged Care, Cert III or IV in Individual Support / Leisure and Health or similar is highly desirable.
