About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Detainee Services Officer. This is a residential role based on Christmas Island, where you will be responsible for ensuring the safety, dignity, and security of the centre on behalf of an Australian Government Department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Focus on the detainees in our care, ensuring their well-being and providing support as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with the team to maintain a secure and respectful environment.
  • Develop and implement strategies to promote the dignity and self-respect of detainees.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure the effective management of the centre.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated high levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour.
  • Sound fitness level and ability to work in a physically demanding environment.
  • Clear and effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Natural ability to influence and negotiate in challenging situations.
  • High level of resilience and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, rotational shift patterns, and hours as required by the centre.
  • Sound level of computer literacy and ability to learn new systems.
  • Strong desire for learning and personal development.

What We Offer:

  • Free accommodation provided.
  • 5 weeks annual leave.
  • Remote District Allowance: $325.04 per fortnight.
  • Travel Allowance – put towards flights home (applicable after 6 months continuous service).
  • Free transport to and from the Centre provided.
  • Subsidised $4 meals offered.

Selection Process:

  • Phone interview.
  • Group Interview – either on the 28th February or 1st March.
  • Pre-Employment Medical.
  • Online Language, Literacy & Numeracy Assessment.
  • Psychometric Assessment.
