Job Description

Rebuilding shattered lives is at the heart of this role, supporting refugees to recover from torture and other traumatic events.

Key Responsibilities
  • Expert assessment and counselling services using a diverse range of psychosocial therapeutic interventions.
  • Addressing both the complex psychological impact of trauma and broader social and economic determinants of mental health.
  • Liaison and facilitated referrals with relevant health, community, education, and legal services.
The Role

We have an ongoing part-time position available in our Sunshine office for a Counsellor Advocate.

About You

We are seeking professionals who are committed to advancing human rights and passionate about supporting trauma recovery for refugee background individuals and families.

Selection Criteria
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in psychology, social work, counselling, or other related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in counselling, preferably in a similar trauma recovery context or another area of trauma-focused service provision.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct psychosocial assessments and risk assessments of adults and families.
  • Ability to write high-quality professional psychosocial reports for various stakeholders.
  • Good understanding of negotiating and advocating with multiple service systems in Victoria to support client needs.
  • Previous experience working with Asylum Seeker clients would be highly beneficial.
Benefits

You will be rewarded with an attractive remuneration package ranging between 106k and 111k plus superannuation (pro rata to 0.8 EFT).
