The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry is seeking a highly skilled Senior Policy Officer to join our team in the Epidemiology, Surveillance and Laboratory Section. As a key member of our team, you will provide expert advice and support to inform evidence-based policies, strategies, and programs for animal disease preparedness and response.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide secretariat support to national committees, subcommittees, and working groups relevant to animal health policy, laboratory standards, and disease preparedness and responses.
- Contribute to the development and management of projects and activities within the branch and with external clients and providers, including procurement and grant management.
- Coordinate and support the development and implementation of policies and programs, ensuring alignment with national biosecurity agenda.
- Engage and build positive relationships with various stakeholders, including governments and industries, to address national biosecurity priorities.
- Provide input into the development or review of international policy and technical standards for trade in animals and their products as required.
- Prepare briefings, correspondence, reports, and media releases as needed.
- Supervise staff as required.
Requirements
- Knowledge of Australia's animal production and health systems.
- Knowledge or experience in diagnostics, disease surveillance and investigation, biosecurity risk assessment, and/or emergency disease preparedness and response.
- Experience in facilitating committees, sub-committees, and working groups, including providing secretariat support.
- Practical knowledge or experience in developing and delivering plans, programs, and/or projects for strategic objectives.
