Student Midwife
About the RoleWe are seeking a skilled and dedicated Student Midwife to join our team at the Department of Health, Tasmania.
This is a fixed term, part-time opportunity with a structured pathway into ongoing employment upon successful completion of the postgraduate program.
Key Responsibilities- To work as a Student Midwife in our department, providing high-quality care to women and their families.
- Registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
- Confirmation of enrollment in a midwifery course accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
- Current Working with Children Registration.
This role offers a supportive and inclusive team committed to woman-centred care, hands-on learning opportunities, and exposure to both low- and high-risk maternity care environments.
Your Future With UsUpon successful completion of the postgraduate program, you will become a valued member of our midwifery team with opportunities to work across:
- Antenatal Clinics
- Inpatient Maternity Services (including Special Care Nursery)
- Extended Care Midwifery (home visits and postnatal community support)
- Midwifery Group Practice

The TeamWe are located at the North West Regional Hospital with satellite and community-based services across Mersey Community Hospital, King Island District Hospital, Smithton District Hospital and West Coast District Hospital.
Eligibility CriteriaTo be eligible for this role, you must meet the following criteria:
- You must have registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
- You must confirm your enrollment in a midwifery course accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
- You must hold current Working with Children Registration.
