Job Purpose

The Maritime Security Guard is responsible for protecting the integrity and safety of all established maritime zones at a security-regulated port. This role ensures compliance with relevant regulations, approved maritime security plans, and site traffic management plans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Control access into a maritime zone according to MTOFSA regulations
  • Sign contractors in and out
  • Verify contractor induction cards and MSICs
  • Conduct email checks, administration, communications, and required reporting
  • Provide perimeter security to prevent unauthorized access and vulnerabilities
  • Ensure all personnel with security access cards have completed relevant induction and obtained approved access levels
  • Monitor entry gates, site buildings, grounds, access control systems, and visitor management processes
  • Respond to alarms generated by access systems, fire systems, CCTV systems, and staff or contractor issues
  • Monitor exit gates for unauthorized entry, MSIC checks at turnstiles, and exit and entrance gates
  • Conduct regular patrols, administration, and building patrols, and locking/unlocking doors and gates
  • Provide daily communications, event logs, incident reports, breaches, foot patrol reports, readings, alarms, and checks
  • Promptly identify and prevent potential security risks, reporting to the client contact and supervisor
  • Respond to on-site medical emergencies, first aid, and other emergencies as required
  • Perform emergency siren and fire alarm testing
  • Conduct gatehouse duties when required

Qualifications

  • Hold a Certificate II in Security Operations
  • Hold a current and applicable security license
  • Able to obtain and maintain a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC)
  • Hold a valid license to work as a security guard, issued or recognized by the relevant state or territory, and in force
  • Hold occupational first aid
  • Hold a current valid driving license, as required

Experience

  • Experience working as an MSG or in a busy gatehouse role
  • Previous CCTV monitoring experience highly regarded
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar role
  • Ability and experience writing detailed incident reports
  • Experience using access control systems
  • Experience working in a team environment
