Townsville City Council is the largest local government authority in Northern Australia, committed to creating value by growing Townsville through driving economic diversity and generating an enriching lifestyle.
We provide and maintain over $7 billion worth of community assets, including water and wastewater networks, bridges, drainage, roads, waste management, community facilities, sporting venues, and more. Our organisation contributes to an active lifestyle for residents and visitors through events, recreational facilities, environmental protection, and heritage conservation, while promoting mental and physical well-being.
We focus on transitioning to a circular economy that is resilient to social, financial, and environmental shocks, leading the creation of a city for this and future generations. As a council led by our community, we strive to create an exciting and dynamic future for Townsville.
This role will be focused on the needs and aspirations of the Townsville community, growing and managing customer relationships, developing a culture of customer-centricity, and reshaping service delivery to maximise value.
The purpose of this position is to provide administration and governance functions for all responsibilities within the Environmental Health and Regulation section, working collaboratively with other administrative teams to ensure professional support services are provided consistently. The role will provide timely, efficient, and effective support, primarily to ensure alignment with legislative and regulatory requirements, while maintaining quality and attention to detail.
Staff in this role must be adaptable to an environment with many competing and shifting deadlines and priorities, acting as the key interface with the Customer Service area and primary point of contact for customer enquiries for the section.
The successful applicant will be able to:
- Provide excellent customer service and specialist advice to a wide-ranging customer base, including external and internal customers, government departments, executive leadership, Mayor, and Councillors;
- Work with and around animals, as the role involves supporting the Animal Care and Adoption Centre;
- Generate, monitor, and complete financial processing transactions, including procuring goods and services, managing the portable and attractive item register, coordinating travel arrangements, and reporting credit card transactions;
- Ensure accurate administration of the Schedule of fees and charges, including raising relevant fees and charges, collecting payments, and receipting;
- Interpret and filter customer service requests for inspection, investigation, and/or scheduling of works, assigning priority levels according to the sectional priority matrix;
- Administer, investigate, and accurately process relevant applications and/or projects to meet legislative and regulatory timeframes;
- Demonstrate an outcomes-focused and value-adding culture, taking personal accountability for delivering on the Corporate Plan and policies;
- Maintain accurate record keeping, including decisions, recommendations, and resolutions, in accordance with operational standards.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team and contribute to the growth and development of Townsville. We offer a range of benefits, including:
- A competitive salary of approximately $80,000 - $110,000 per annum, based on experience;
- 17.5% annual leave loading;
- Up to 5 weeks annual leave;

- Learning and Development opportunities;
- Fitness Passport program offering discounted membership to selected gym, pool, and yoga facilities;
- Employee Loyalty Program offering discounts at selected local businesses;
- Employee Assistance Program;
