Exhibition and Display Installation Specialist

The University of Tasmania seeks an experienced and skilled Exhibition and Display Installation Assistant to join our team. This is a casual position that requires flexibility, creativity, and attention to detail.
About the RoleWe are looking for someone who can work collaboratively with our team to install and deinstall exhibitions, pack and unpack artworks, and ensure compliance with workplace health and safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with the hands-on installation and deinstallation of exhibitions and artwork at Plimsoll Gallery and off-site locations.
- Under supervision, assist with exhibition preparation, including packing and unpacking of artworks, exhibition technology, and lighting.
- Maintain compliance with UTAS workplace health and safety (WHS) procedures when performing manual handling tasks, including loading and unloading crates and heavy items, and routine manual duties such as painting walls.
- Organise storage areas and gallery spaces to ensure cleanliness and tidiness.
- Experience in art handling and safe installation of complex exhibitions and displays following Work Health Safety principles for manual handling, working at heights, and complying with safe work procedures.
- The ability to work to deadlines and problem-solve consultatively under pressure.
- Strong interpersonal, organisation, and communication skills, including teamwork and collaboration with multiple stakeholders.
- Demonstrated capability to continually learn and adapt new knowledge, skills, technology, and techniques relevant to galleries and museums.
- A minimum Certificate III level qualification in visual arts, trades, design, or equivalent experience.
- A current First Aid certificate, or willingness to attain one.
- Travel may be required between campuses.
- A current driver's license.
This casual position offers a competitive hourly rate of $40 per hour, plus 11.5% Superannuation. The salary range will depend on the candidate's qualifications and experience. We also offer opportunities for professional development and growth within the University.
