About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Curator of Fine Arts and Decorative Collections to lead our team in managing, developing, and promoting the fine art and decorative art collections through curation, exhibition development, and research. As a key member of our team, you will provide expert advice and services that contribute to knowledge of art at a departmental, national, and international level, promoting us as a centre of excellence.

Job Description

This is a senior role within our organisation, reporting directly to the Deputy Director, Research and Collections. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing the activities of the Art team, ensuring high-quality art services are delivered to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Collection Management: Manage the art collections, including collection documentation, collection care, research, digitisation, storage, and acquisitions in line with our policies.
  • Exhibition Development: Curate, project manage, and support exhibitions and other public programs, promoting our institution and the collection.
  • Strategic Planning: Prepare, implement, and report on strategic and business plans for the Art team to align with our policy and legislative frameworks.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A proven track record in curating fine arts and decorative collections, with experience in collection management, exhibition development, and research.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to work closely with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to lead a small team.
  • A deep understanding of Tasmanian Aboriginal culture and history, with the ability to work collaboratively with our First Peoples Art and Culture team.
