
Environmental Waste Management Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Waste Management Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our waste management department, you will play a crucial role in developing and implementing waste-related policies and guidelines.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in environmental science, town planning, or a related field, and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They will be able to work autonomously and collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team, managing people and liaising with stakeholders to achieve effective waste solutions.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with court and legal actions through the provision of development assessment documentation, technical advice, and expert advisory services;
- Participating in strategic planning activities to ensure alignment with waste management goals;
- Providing internal and external customer-focused technical advisory services to resolve non-compliance issues and ensure effective waste service;
- Developing and implementing waste-related development control policy, guidelines, and technical specifications;
- Undertaking site inspections to verify compliance with waste-related guidelines and general requirements;
- Maintaining an active working knowledge of relevant codes, guidelines, Australian Standards, and technical information;
- Staying up-to-date with contemporary waste management approaches and technology for use in developments to assist waste management solutions.

Essential criteria include:
- Degree-level qualifications in environmental science, town planning, or another relevant field of study; or extensive industry experience;
- Sound knowledge of current State Government legislation and regulations relating to waste management and resource recovery;
- High standard of written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills;
- The ability to work autonomously and collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team;
- Ability to liaise, negotiate, and effectively resolve conflicts and reconcile competing interests;
- Excellent customer service skills.
Desirable criteria include:
- Sound knowledge of current waste management challenges and opportunities;
- Possession of a NSW Class C Driver's Licence;
- Knowledge and experience in the functions and responsibilities of local government;
- Knowledge of issues and opportunities associated with rapid urban growth.
