Job Title: Waste Management Specialist
About the Role:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Waste Management Specialist to play a critical role in ensuring compliance with local state waste regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Waste Classification and Segregation: Ensure that waste is correctly classified, stored, and segregated, labelled, documented in waste logs, and prepared for shipment in accordance with local state waste regulatory requirements.
- Facility Maintenance and Housekeeping: Maintain the waste storage area and all safety equipment, including eye wash, spill kit, fire extinguisher, etc., in accordance with Australian regulatory requirements.
- Log and Containerize Waste: Log and containerize all regulated and hazardous wastes using a digital waste reporting tool.
- Engage with Waste Vendors: Arrange waste collection, send accumulated logs, schedule and coordinate waste pick-ups, and follow-up on paperwork for each consignment of waste.
- Conduct Site-Based Environmental Inspections: Raise findings and gaps, then collaborate with relevant site stakeholders to assign actions to achieve effective environmental management.
- Liaise with Site Teams: Engage with WHS, ICQA, ISS, Vendor Returns, and Customer Returns teams responsible for the proper management of hazardous chemicals and generation of hazardous wastes.
- Support Waste Reduction Efforts: Work with site leadership to provide Environmental updates and visibility of Environmental Performance status and requirements.
Requirements:
- Experience: 2+ years in a fulfillment/distribution center environment.
- Knowledge: Understanding of Receiving processes and operations, waste classification, segregation, and state-based waste regulatory requirements.
- Education: Diploma or Degree in Environmental Science or Science.
- Skills: Ability to analyze data to identify opportunities, issues, or improvements for waste minimization.
