Job Summary

The role of Aboriginal Communicator for Safety plays a vital part in the Department's commitment to providing culturally appropriate health services.

The successful candidate will facilitate effective communication between patients and healthcare staff by providing interpreting services, cultural brokerage, education, advocacy, and support.

About the Role

This position bridges the gap between language and culture to ensure high-quality care for Aboriginal patients.

  • Interpreting services for patients and their families
  • Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to the Code of Ethics for Interpreters
  • Training health professionals on communication and cross-cultural issues
  • Fostering a positive workplace culture
Key Selection Criteria

To be successful in this role, applicants must demonstrate:

  • Ability to engage and communicate effectively with diverse patient groups
  • Awareness of cultural and cross-cultural issues affecting Aboriginal people
  • Personal and interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication
  • Confidence in public speaking
Requirements
