Job Description

The Laboratory Support Specialist will be responsible for receiving and processing specimens, including operating and maintaining analytical equipment. This role requires a high level of motivation, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work in a busy environment with minimal supervision.

This position involves routine receipting and processing of specimens, pre and post-analytical specimen handling, identification and prioritisation of urgent specimens, filing and storage of specimens, and data entry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receiving and processing specimens;
  • Operating and maintaining analytical equipment;
  • Handling and prioritising specimens;
  • Filing and storing specimens and data;
  • Assisting Scientists as required;
  • Staying up-to-date with processing requirements and updates;
  • Responding to result queries and sample requirements.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be considered for this position, you will need to have:

  • Specimen processing experience is desirable but not essential;
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills;
  • Ability to cope and thrive in a busy environment;
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and collaborate with colleagues;
  • Understanding of the importance of accurate procedure adherence;
  • A willingness to adhere to policies and procedures;
  • Previous laboratory experience and medical terminology knowledge would be beneficial but not essential;
  • Certificate III in Laboratory Techniques or Pathology Collection is desirable.
