Job Opportunity: Laboratory Assistant

As a Laboratory Assistant, you will be part of a dynamic team that plays a critical role in providing high-quality laboratory services. Your primary responsibility will be to assist Scientists and other laboratory personnel with various tasks, ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Routine receipting and processing of specimens; including operation and maintenance of analysers
  • Pre and post-analytical specimen handling
  • Identification and prioritisation of urgent specimens
  • Filing and storage of specimens and data entry
  • Assisting Scientists in the Lab as required
  • Continuous learning of processing requirements of different types of samples for different tests
  • Staying up to date with processing updates
  • Respond to result, sample requirements and general queries
  • Identifying and resolving problems on at the pre-analytic stage

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Specimen processing and data entry experience is desirable but not essential
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • The ability to cope and thrive in a busy environment
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and work as a team
  • Understanding the importance of following procedures accurately
  • A willingness to adhere to departmental and organisational policies and procedures
  • Previous laboratory experience and exposure to medical terminology would be desirable but not essential
  • Certificate III in Laboratory Techniques or Pathology Collection is desirable
