Strategic Public Affairs Specialist

This role involves driving proactive media campaigns and managing high-profile public issues. Proactive campaigns and political stakeholder engagement are key aspects of this job.
Main Responsibilities
- Manage a busy portfolio of reactive media inquiries and proactive campaigns (60 / 40 split).
- Deliver clear, strategic messaging across politically sensitive and high-stakes issues.
- Build trusted relationships with senior executives, ministerial offices, and community stakeholders.
- Oversee media responses on urgent matters, from public safety incidents to political issues.
- Partner across multiple divisions including operations, events, marketing, property, and visitor services.
- Participate in a light-touch on-call roster (1 in 3 weekends) with allowance provided.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential :
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in communications, media, public affairs, or related field.
- Proven experience in government communications.
- Demonstrated issues management capability under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills with strong emotional intelligence.
- Confidence navigating complex approval processes.
Desirable :
- Experience in planning, infrastructure, or environment-related government portfolios.
- Background in journalism or advisory roles.
