Join the NSW Reconstruction Authority (RA) and play a vital role in strengthening community resilience and enhancing the reputation of a pivotal government agency. As Manager Public Affairs, you'll lead high-impact communication strategies and media engagement that support the RA's programs and initiatives, including the State Resilience Strategy and Disaster Ready Fund.
About the Role
As the Manager Public Affairs, you will be responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of public affairs and media relations to maintain and enhance the public image of the Authority. You will:
- Lead a broad range of public affairs and public relations activities, including timely and accurate media responses and proactive media milestones.
- Manage media projects across multiple portfolios, developing and implementing effective media strategies and materials.
- Develop tactical media plans and communications materials that support community preparedness, recovery activities, and key government programs.
- Work collaboratively across the Authority to support relationships with Ministerial offices, media representatives, the Executive, and senior managers.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with media teams in relevant ministerial and intergovernmental departments.
- Provide strategic media advice to the Executive and Ministerial offices, including media monitoring and approval of public engagement materials.
- Establish a robust issues management program to proactively identify, assess, and develop strategies to address significant issues.
About You
You are an experienced and strategic public affairs professional with:
- A proven track record in managing media and public relations activities in a complex, high-profile environment.
- Demonstrated ability to develop strong relationships with Ministerial advisers, executives, senior managers, and media stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deliver accurate, timely, and high-impact messaging.
- Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, especially in high-pressure or time-sensitive situations.
- Experience providing advice to senior leaders and navigating complex stakeholder environments.
- A collaborative and proactive approach to cross-agency engagement and reputation management.
Essential requirements:
- Tertiary qualification in journalism or public relations and/or relevant knowledge and experience.
- At least 10 years experience in media management.

About the Agency
The NSW Reconstruction Authority (RA) is an executive agency of the Premier's Department. The RA will improve how NSW plans for disasters and help communities to recover from them faster.
To reduce the severity and impacts of disasters, the RA will complete critical planning and preparation with communities, NGOs, businesses, and government. When disaster does strike, we will get recovery started swiftly and coordinate reconstruction efforts across agencies, communities, and other stakeholders.
