As an Airport Police Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the airport and its passengers. Your duties will include performing law enforcement and security duties, responding to calls for service, controlling traffic, and enforcing airport security rules and regulations.

Responsibilities:

* Perform vehicle and foot patrol of airport property and terminal buildings
* Respond to calls for service
* Control traffic and provide for the safety and welfare of the public
* Execute security measures to provide for the safety of persons and property involved in air transportation
* Detect and prevent criminal activities and violations of the airport security program
* Promote understanding and cooperation between the airport authority, airport employees, and the public
* Enforce traffic laws, vehicle codes, city codes, and airport security rules and regulations
* Prepare daily reports and reports related to law enforcement, airport security, and airport regulations
* Provide services related to law enforcement and aviation security
* Investigate crime scenes and incidents
* Protect evidence, take witness testimony, and assist the department or public as appropriate
* Operate computer systems to provide access to data relating to airport security identification badges, lock and key control, T-hangar access controls, and employee parking
* Maintain proficiency with weapons and utilize weapons in accordance with use of force standards

Requirements:

* High school diploma or GED
* Currently certified as a police officer in the state of Florida
* Valid Florida driver's license
* Pass the required TSA security background investigation
* Attend a TSA security standards class and successfully pass a test with a minimum score of 70
* Pass testing consisting of situational judgment and human relations, written report writing, and reading video-based tests
* Pass the PAT physical abilities test

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Knowledge of emergency medical and first aid practices
* Knowledge of patrol resource allocation theories, methods, and procedures
* Knowledge of FM FAR 1542; Melbourne International Airport Security Program; Melbourne International Airport Rules and Regulations; Melbourne City Code; and federal, state, and local government laws
* Skill in using firearms and other police equipment
* Ability to analyze situations and make logical decisions under stressful situations
* Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and to understand written and oral directions
* Ability to interpret program objectives and policies
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
* Ability to apply principles to solve practical problems, define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
* Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with citizens in a wide variety of stressful situations
* Ability to act effectively in emergency situations
* Ability to work shifts and hours as required
* Ability to utilize computer keyboard with a reasonable degree of accuracy and associated software
* Ability to conduct oral and written presentations
* Ability to operate motor vehicles in a safe and efficient manner
* Ability to work in areas that may be cool or warm during adverse weather conditions
* Ability to physically restrain or subdue an individual
* Ability to learn simple or complex tasks
* Ability to work in a high-pace environment

Physical Demands:

The work is heavy and requires exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
