Airport Security Officer

The role involves a range of law enforcement and security responsibilities aimed at safeguarding property, preventing and detecting crime, ensuring public safety, managing traffic, and enforcing the Airport Security Program along with Airport Rules and Regulations.
Key Responsibilities:- Conducts both vehicle and foot patrols across Airport premises, including terminal buildings, aircraft operation areas, roadways, parking facilities, and various structures on airport grounds.
- Responds promptly to service requests.
- Manages traffic flow, ensuring the safety and welfare of the public.
- Implements security protocols in designated areas as determined by the Airport Authority to ensure the safety of individuals and property involved in air travel.
- Detects and prevents criminal activities and violations of the Airport Security Program through effective surveillance and patrol techniques.
- Fosters understanding and collaboration by explaining relevant laws and regulations, building positive relationships between the Airport Authority, airport personnel, and the public.
- Enforces traffic regulations, vehicle codes, city ordinances, and Airport Security Rules, promoting safety for both vehicles and pedestrians.
- Prepares daily reports and documentation related to law enforcement, airport security, and compliance with airport regulations as necessary.
- Provides law enforcement and aviation security services, including making arrests and providing court testimony.
- Investigates incidents and crime scenes as assigned.
- Secures evidence, collects witness statements, and assists the department or public as needed.
- Utilizes computer systems for access to data related to airport security identification badges, lock and key control, T-hangar access, and employee parking.
- Maintains proficiency with firearms and utilizes them in accordance with established use of force standards.
- High School Diploma or GED. (Proof of education must be submitted with application).
- Must currently hold certification as a Police Officer in the State of Florida.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license. Candidates with an out-of-state license must obtain a Florida license within 10 days of employment.
- Must successfully pass the required TSA security background investigation.
- Must complete a TSA Security Standards Class and achieve a minimum score of 70 on the test.
- Must pass assessments including situational judgment, human relations, written report writing, and video-based tests.
- Must successfully complete the PAT physical abilities test.
- Understanding of emergency medical and first aid practices.
- Familiarity with patrol resource allocation theories, methods, and procedures.
- Knowledge of FM FAR 1542; Melbourne International Airport Security Program; Melbourne International Airport Rules and Regulations; Melbourne City Code; and applicable federal, state, and local laws.
- Proficiency in the use of firearms and other law enforcement equipment.
- Ability to assess situations and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to comprehend written and oral instructions.
- Capability to interpret program objectives and policies.
- Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships.
- Skill in applying principles to resolve practical issues, identify problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interact tactfully and effectively with the public in various stressful situations and respond appropriately in emergencies.
- Willingness to work various shifts and hours as required.
- Competence in using a computer keyboard with a reasonable degree of accuracy and associated software.
- Ability to conduct both oral and written presentations.
- Capability to operate motor vehicles, including cars, trucks, and vans, safely and efficiently.
- Ability to work in varying temperature conditions, from cool (68 degrees or lower) to warm (75 degrees or higher), for extended periods.
- Physical capability to restrain or subdue individuals when necessary.
- Ability to learn and perform both simple and complex tasks.
- Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
The position requires heavy physical exertion, involving lifting over 100 pounds occasionally, over 50 pounds frequently, and over 20 pounds constantly. Additionally, the following physical abilities are essential: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, manual dexterity, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
