Assistant Under Treasurer, Energy Leadership Role

As the Assistant Under Treasurer for the Energy Division within Queensland Treasury, you will be responsible for delivering on the state's commitment to a sustainable and reliable energy sector.

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to the Energy Division, ensuring alignment with government priorities.
  • Lead the development and implementation of strategies, programs, regulatory frameworks, and initiatives that drive long-term productivity growth and sustainability in Queensland's energy sector.
  • Offer high-quality strategic advice and analysis, information, and guidance to the Under Treasurer and Treasurer on policy, regulatory, and compliance issues related to sustainable energy supply.
  • Develop strong linkages with key stakeholders, including electricity customers and industry, to ensure coordinated and integrated policy and programs.
  • Represent the Government and Department at various forums, advocating for the interests of the energy sector and the department.
  • Provide oversight and advice to support the Treasurer's responsibilities as minister of government-owned energy corporations.
  • Drive the delivery of services and portfolio commitments that meet the Government's priorities within budget allocation, meeting service standards, and identifying innovative efficiencies.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with senior executives and key staff in Treasury, Government-Owned Corporations, other government agencies, and stakeholders.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • A high-level understanding of energy policy, regulatory, and commercial issues, with the ability to lead large-scale strategic energy programs.
  • Significant executive-level experience in the energy or related sectors, with a strong grasp of the public sector's whole-of-government agenda.
  • Proven success as a leader in complex organisations, with a strong capacity to drive change, build capable teams, and foster innovation.
  • Outstanding communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills to shape policy and manage relationships.
