Job Overview

The Advanced Instrumentation and Technology Centre (AITC) is a leading national facility dedicated to advancing cutting-edge instruments for astronomy and space research.

A key player in space technology innovation, AITC spearheads extensive programs in laser communications and earth observations. It also hosts the Australian National Space Testing Facility.

Key Responsibilities:

To excel in this role, you will hold an undergraduate degree and be progressing towards postgraduate qualifications in a relevant science or engineering discipline, plus over four years of relevant practical experience. Expertise in designing electronics and/or developing detector systems for scientific instrumentation is highly desirable.

You will work on pioneering research and development initiatives in astronomical instrumentation, space instrumentation, and scientific detector systems. You will develop and implement major projects for telescopes, laser communications, and earth observation, collaborating closely with industry partners, suppliers, and contractors.

Requirements:

  1. An undergraduate degree in a relevant science or engineering discipline and progression towards postgraduate qualifications.
  2. Over four years of relevant practical experience.
  3. Expertise in designing electronics and/or developing detector systems for scientific instrumentation is highly desirable.
  4. Familiarity with telescope development, laser communication systems, and earth observation technologies.
  5. Strong collaboration and project management skills.
