About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Center Technical Operations Engineer to join our team at Amazon Web Services (AWS). As a key member of our Infrastructure Operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our data centers, including the design, planning, delivery, and maintenance of all AWS global infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in a 24/7 rotating shift pattern to ensure the availability and reliability of our data centers.
  • Undertake and support management of both routine maintenance and emergency service of critical systems, including switch-gear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, building monitoring systems, fire systems, and more.
  • Installation of new rack capacity and provisioning of power/cooling to ensure optimal data center performance.
  • On-site management of contractors and vendors, ensuring that all work performed is in accordance with established practices, procedures, and local legislation.
  • Establish performance benchmarks, conduct analyses, and prepare reports and documentation of all aspects of critical facility infrastructure operations and maintenance.
  • Manage the facility's assets, including generating change management requests and incident management tickets for all facility-related events.
  • Collaborate with data center IT managers and other business leaders to coordinate day-to-day operations, projects, manage capacity, and optimize plant safety, performance, reliability, sustainability, and efficiency.
  • Drive and implement projects to increase current facility capacity, efficiency, sustainability, and reliability, as well as assist in the design, implementation, commissioning, and build-out of new data center facilities.
Requirements
  • 4+ years of relevant work experience in facilities management, maintaining a data center or other critical space facility.
  • Ability to prioritize in a complex, fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with, awareness of, and adherence to physical security protocol.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (Word/Excel) and web browser-based applications and tooling.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other relevant discipline) or technical (military/trade school/TAFE) degree and relevant experience plus 4+ years of data center management/engineering/operations experience.
  • Strong understanding of the electrical and mechanical systems used in a data center environment, including but not limited to DRUPS, Transformers, Generators, Switch-gear, UPS systems, ATS/STS units, PDUs, Chillers, AHUs, and CRAC units.
  • Mission-Critical facility management experience for a large enterprise or large Colocation provider.
  • Experience in management of vendors/contractors performing construction, maintenance, and upgrading works in large-scale critical environments.
  • Data center Project Management/capacity planning and budgetary experience.
