Dynamic Clinical Role

The role of a locum hospital speech pathologist involves working in a dynamic clinical environment, providing assessment and treatment to patients with various communication disorders.

The Key Areas of Responsibility
  • Paediatric outpatients (approximately 80% of the caseload)
  • Adult outpatients
  • Ward-based (covering acute and subacute wards)
  • Aged-care facility

Patient cases include phonological delays, language delay, dysphagia assessment & management, voice disorder and acquired communication impairments.

The speech pathologist is supported by an Allied Health Assistant who provides paediatric therapy under the delegation of the Speech Pathologist.

About The Ideal Candidate
  • Possession of a tertiary qualification and accreditation as a Speech Pathologist with membership or eligibility for membership with Speech Pathology Australia.
  • Post Graduate clinical qualification(s) in speciality area of practice.
  • Extensive clinical knowledge, skills and leadership experience in speech pathology.
  • Demonstrated sound advanced clinical assessment and analysis skills and knowledge, and ability to implement indicated treatments for individuals and groups.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Understanding of relevant accreditation and funding systems, and demonstrated ability to manage continuous improvement portfolio.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the needs, issues and sensitivities of people from diverse backgrounds.
Additional Information
  • Variable contract duration
  • 64-72 hours per fortnight, Monday to Friday roster
  • Grade 2 level role
  • Locum rates
