Job Opportunity
We are seeking an Animal Technician to join our team at the University. As an Animal Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting cutting-edge research and teaching activities, caring for and managing laboratory species, and ensuring their health and wellbeing.
About the Role
- Provide daily care, monitor health, perform euthanasia when required, and ensure the wellbeing of research animals.
- Assist in preparing animals for procedures, maintain colonies, and ensure compliance with ethical standards.
- Maintain clean and safe environments, manage inventory, and adhere to regulatory policies.
- Work closely with researchers, participate in training activities, and contribute to a team-oriented environment.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- A compassionate and detail-oriented individual with a strong commitment to animal welfare, the ability to work effectively in a team environment supporting scientific research, and flexibility with working arrangements (including weekend and public holiday shift work).
- A Diploma of Animal Technology or equivalent qualification, and experience in animal handling techniques and maintaining accurate records.
- Knowledge of regulatory systems governing animal research, including relevant Codes of Practice.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
