Role Overview:

The Aboriginal Postnatal Engagement Officer will work in our Programs team to provide support and outreach to families at Mercy Hospital for Women in Heidelberg. This is an Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander identified position, requiring a skilled individual to promote health and well-being for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Women and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver outreach and support to promote health and well-being for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Women and their families
  • Assist and advise on the development of culturally sensitive initiatives to support a healthy start to life for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children
  • Identify barriers for Aboriginal families in accessing healthcare services
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver exceptional patient-centred care

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to the Victorian Aboriginal community, culture, values and women's and children's health needs
  • High level skills in providing support and advocacy to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • Well-developed communication skills and a demonstrated capacity to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Compassionate, flexible and positive approach to effective patient care and management
