About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Design Manager to join our Water team in Melbourne. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing complex Water Infrastructure projects, including concept and detailed design and/or strategic infrastructure planning projects.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Design management/project management of complex Water Infrastructure projects
  • Managing the day-to-day tasks on multiple projects of varying complexity and size
  • Leading and motivating design and project teams to ensure projects are delivered to the required scope, within budget, and to a high standard of quality
  • Ensuring relationships with clients, including contractors, are managed effectively to meet/exceed client expectations
  • Developing independent, practical, and economical solutions to problems and taking necessary action for the successful accomplishment of assigned projects
  • Leading and/or contributing to business development activities, including proposals and pursuits
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver on project goals, including providing technical input, technical review, and sign-off (as appropriate), and risk management
  • Keeping abreast of current water and wastewater technology and providing high technical expertise and innovation in design and procurement of projects
  • Applying relevant State and Federal legislation as it pertains to water and applying industry standards and guidelines
  • Participating in company development initiatives
  • Supporting and mentoring staff, including active participation in the Mentoring Program and mentoring junior PMs and DMs
  • Active involvement in shaping the industry and events through committees, industry bodies, delivery papers, etc.

About You

We are looking for a highly experienced and skilled Design Manager with a strong background in water infrastructure projects. You will have:

  • A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience in the Australian water industry, ideally in an engineering consultancy with a focus on water utilities/water treatment
  • Demonstrated experience in the project/design management of water infrastructure projects
  • Project management qualifications/accreditation would be highly regarded
  • Experience with plant commissioning would be an asset
  • Technical skills across a broad range of areas within water and/or wastewater treatment/process disciplines
  • Strong technical writing skills and the ability to communicate with and relate to a wide range of stakeholders
  • A positive and proactive attitude with the ability to get involved and lead others, while contributing to a vibrant team
