Job Overview

As a critical environment specialist, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of our data centers. Your primary responsibility will be to maintain the critical infrastructure that supports our cloud services.

This involves coordinating with suppliers/vendors, identifying potential hazards, understanding how critical environment equipment works, performing various types of maintenance, responding to onsite incidents while coordinating with other critical facilities professionals, and monitoring equipment performance using telemetry and other platforms.

Our cloud operations and innovation team is responsible for powering our cloud services. As a critical environment specialist, you will be an integral part of delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform.

We have a large global portfolio of more than 200 data centers in 32 countries and millions of servers. Our foundation is built upon and managed by a team of subject matter experts supporting services for over 1 billion customers and 20 million businesses in over 90 countries worldwide.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this role include:

  • Inspecting and supervising critical environment-related facility equipment, building, and grounds for unsafe or abnormal conditions and escalating per applicable policies and standards.
  • Utilizing internal computerized maintenance management systems to track all equipment assets and complete work order requests for maintenance work.
  • Safely and quickly responding to and leading onsite incident response teams for all abnormal conditions that impact operations, coordinating with other critical facilities professionals to perform corrective repairs without supervision.
  • Enhancing, developing new or following pre-existing emergency operating procedures, methods of procedure, and standard operating procedures related to CE operations and incidents.
  • Performing various types of maintenance (planned, predictive, corrective) and repairs following MOPs and SOPs for one or more types of equipment (e.g., electrical, mechanical, cooling systems).

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must have the following skills and qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • 1+ year(s) of mission-critical services work or applied learning experience (e.g., data centers, high-availability environments, or related fields).
