Job Overview

The role involves leading underwriting assessments and supporting key activities within the underwriting team in Australia.

This requires close collaboration with stakeholders to develop an underwriting proposition that meets client needs and aligns with strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Client Referrals (50-80%):
    • Assess client referrals against risk philosophies and exercise judgment to ensure work is conducted within service level agreements.
    • Continuously challenge current practices and improve processes and documentation.
    • Optimize underwriting activities through Chorus portal and cross-regional working.
  2. Internal Governance, Training, System Enhancement, Ocean Development (10-20%):
    • Maintain awareness of regulatory changes impacting the insurance market.
    • Contribute to regular maintenance of risk management policies.
    • Deliver training to address knowledge gaps within the team.
    • Lead or serve as SME for Chorus, responsible for continuous efficiency gains and user testing.
    • Support Ocean development work, including client engagement regarding risk philosophy changes and enhancements.
  3. Client Engagement and Training (10-20%):
    • Enhance relationships through engagement and training, ensuring client loyalty and satisfaction.
  4. Client Auditing and UnderwriteMe Rules Auditing:
    • Audit plans are developed and audits conducted accordingly.
    • Participate in, lead, or approve external audits, including report preparation and execution.
    • UnderwriteMe rules are audited to ensure alignment with risk philosophies.
  5. Client Strategy and Solutions:
    • Develop innovative underwriting solutions for key clients.
    • Collaborate with Strategic Analytics, UnderwriteMe, Pricing, and Client Solutions to produce desired outcomes.
    • Contribute to market strategy by supporting marketing, business development, and pricing activities.
Qualifications & Experience
  1. Proven experience in a life underwriting department at a senior level.
  2. Experience handling underwriting for all major products.
  3. Competent user status for MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  4. Good working knowledge of life insurance industry regulations.
