About the Role

The Assistant Director, Finance Business Partners will play a key role in providing strategic financial advice and support to Directorate managers and executive members. This will involve providing accurate and timely financial analysis, forecasting, and reporting, as well as budgeting information through quality financial management advice and support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take carriage of the day-to-day financial management of business units, including:
  • Monthly account analyses and reconciliations to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the ledger's financial information resulting from daily transactional activities.
  • Providing high-level strategic financial advice on matters such as planning, commitments, resource management, budget and forecast development and management.
  • Timely preparation of financial and management accounting reports, including advice to Senior Management and Executives on financial performance, expenditure projections across Business as Usual (BAU) and Initiative funding.
  • Managing the development and implementation of internal budgets, including forecasting.
  • Provide advice and assistance in the development of business cases, including costing activities, ensuring appropriate treatment in line with relevant Accounting Standards and policies.
  • Undertake high-level research, reviews or investigations, including drafting and preparation of reports, and associated papers executive-level briefs, replies to Parliamentary questions, Ministerial representations, and other briefing material.
  • Provide advice to the Chief Finance Officer and the Senior Management Team on financial trends across business areas.
  • Support the development, implementation, and management of robust and appropriate financial controls and policy frameworks in close consultation with internal stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the delivery of the day-to-day activities of the Strategic Finance Team with a view to delivering the unit's common business goals and objectives.
  • As directed, undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.
Eligibility/Other Requirements
  • Tertiary Qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
  • A minimum of two years' experience in Internal Budget management and/or comparable experience.
  • Professional membership (or currently working towards) of CPA Australia/CAANZ or comparable bodies.
  • Experience in ACT Government's Government Budget Management System (GBMS) will be highly regarded.
